Artist Biography
Jill Sobule is a Denver-born singer, songwriter, guitarist and gypsy. Over
seven albums and a decade of recording, Jill Sobule has mused on topics such as the death penalty, anorexia, shoplifting, reproduction, the French resistance movement, adolescence and the Christian right.
There is a reality, a power and a delicacy to her performances: emotions can often turn from comedy to tragedy in a few bars. Music began for Jill as a high school hobby and soon got serious: Todd Rundgren produced her first album, Things Are Different. Early hit songs included I Kissed a Girl and Supermodel.
California Years, the first release on her own Pinko Records, was produced by Don Was. The recording, promotion and publicity for the record was funded entirely by donations from her fans. It was released in April 2009 to great critical acclaim.
Jill inducted Neil Diamond into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. She's performed with Neil Young, Billy Bragg and Warren Zevon and has been a political troubadour for NPR stations across America as well as a regular musical contributor at TED conventions. She's an American original.
